I acquired a Second Life account ages ago, when they first started giving them away for free. At the time, my computing machine was unable to handle it, so I was graced with a reasonable view of my avatar, and a world full of shapes that were exclusively an uniform light tan colour. It is not the easiest feat in the world to escape Orientation Island when one is walking around legally blind.
The computing device in question had two harddrive failures in succession, which led to it being non recoverable and I was forced to acquire a new one. I am still somewhat bitter regarding certain items lost in the first of the failures. The new computing device, I discovered, was able to actually view the world, if still not on par with the most advanced of machines of its ilk (it is, after all, a laptop, as I travel a fair bit, and furthermore not a machine exclusively designed to traffic in virtual worlds, but instead a workhorse machine that does a fair bit of everything without a distinct specialization). I journeyed back to Second Life, to find an avatar with spiky green hair, and nondescript black clothing, as such was the best I could do with the tools at hand. First order of business became to do something about that, and I've started to paint a skin.
